Cool Web Stuff
by Binnie Syril Braunstein

I've been going through my bookmarks, hunting for juicy website information to pass along. Some of the sites below are better than others. Most are kept up to date. These are just a smattering - many more to follow. (Additions have been added.)

BOOKBUG ON THE WEB - www.bookbugontheweb.com
The site includes (among other things) an author directory, an "Author of the Month" section, awards, Bookbug author pages, reviews, a section on heroes (with input from many familiar writers), links, a Readers' top 100 list, Romance Potpourri, etc.

ALL ABOUT ROMANCE - http://www.likesbooks.com/home.html
Includes sections on romance novels, romance reviews, romance news, romance authors, and more. Includes "printable lists perfect for your next bookstore visit." The Historical Cheat Sheet includes articles about all periods of historical romance by such luminaries as Jo Beverly and our own Mary Jo Putney, along with links to other articles in similar genres.

BookPage - http://www.bookpage.com/index.html
A monthly book review distributed nationwide and available in many bookstores and libraries in print form.

MALICE DOMESTIC - http://www.erols.com/malice/index.htm
An annual convention in metropolitan Washington, DC, saluting "mysteries of manners"--books best typified by the works of Agatha Christie. The genre is loosely defined as mysteries which contain no explicit sex nor excessive gore or violence; and feature an amateur detective (usually), a confined setting, and characters who know one another.

RBL ROMANTICA - http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Lights/3079/index.html
For those who love to read romance novels. Includes Author sites, romance links, reviews.

APBNews.com
For those interested in crime, APBnews.com focuses in on the grimy side of life. Includes a serial killer atlas. This website bills itself as "...the source for news, information and data on crime, justice and safety." APBnews.com's mission, "To Inform and Serve," is based on the belief that the criminal justice system belongs to the citizens, and that by informing them about the system, we are also empowering them to improve it. APBnews.com is committed to providing the news, information and data necessary to make you, your family and your community safer.

APBNews.com's programs include: APB NEWSCENTER (Latest Crime News and Features); APB Breaking News (National to Neighborhood Headline News); APB Major Cases (Comprehensive Coverage of Top Stories); APB Internet Crime (Police and Crime in Cyberspace) APB Missing (Help Find the Missing). There is much more, including sections on safety for women and children. And APB Business Safety (Safeguarding Business and Workplace). The site includes a serial killer bureau and serial killer atlas, as well as information on the world of law enforcement and police officers on the job. This site is a "must" visit for anyone doing research in the suspense/mystery genres.

Bookspot.com provides links to various parts of the publishing industry, including romance. Basically, it provides links to other sites, such as the RWA homepage, The Romance Reader, etc. Includes reviews.

ROMANCE COMMUNICATIONS - romcom.com
Basically an online magazine, it describes itself as "The romance magazine of the 20th century." Includes reviews.

www.WRITERSDIGEST.COM
This isn't exactly Writer's Digest on the web, nor is it Writer's Market on the web. However, this very powerful web site has aspects of both, and can be extremely useful. Users can plumb the site for the latest writer's guidelines, the 101 Best Websites for Writers, a list of writer's conferences, and much more. There are also selected articles. Definitely a useful site to bookmark and revisit often.

www.PUBLIST.COM
